Book Review of When We Break (The Blackwells of Montana #2)

When We Break: A Heartfelt Journey Through Love and Resilience

I was immediately drawn to When We Break by Kristen Proby not only because of its beautiful cover but also due to its intriguing premise—an Irish former ballerina escaping a dangerous past while finding love in a small Montana town. As someone who cherishes stories of resilience and romance, I couldn’t resist diving into Beckett and Skyla’s journey. Spoiler: It completely captivated me!

Characters with Depth and Heart

Skyla Gallagher’s character has a profound emotional depth that I found incredibly relatable. Moving to Bitterroot Valley to escape a stalker, she embodies resilience as she strives to rebuild her life. Beckett Blackwell, or “Beck,” is the quintessential cowboy hero—patient, compassionate, and undeniably charming. Their initial chemistry is palpable, and even though it hints at insta-love, I felt it worked perfectly for them. Beck’s unwavering support as he gradually earns Skyla’s trust made their relationship feel genuine, and I loved witnessing her emotional journey as she opened up about her fears.

What resonated deeply with me was how both characters navigated their traumas and joys together. Beck’s acts of service—from reading to her to ensuring her dog, Riley, felt welcomed—revealed a love language that melded perfectly with Skyla’s healing process. Their interactions, especially Beck’s affectionate nickname for her, "Irish," felt authentic and sweet.

A Dance of Writing Style and Narrative Techniques

Kristen Proby’s writing draws you in with its warm, conversational tone. The narrative flows effortlessly, making it an engaging read that pulls you into the heart of Montana. The pacing felt just right; it allowed the emotional beats of the story to breathe, especially in the moments where Skyla confronts her past and learns to trust again.

I must also commend the community of Bitterroot Valley; the way they embraced Skyla was heartwarming. Proby has a wonderful knack for showcasing how significant a supportive community can be, complementing the romantic arc beautifully.

Memorable Moments and Final Thoughts

One standout moment for me was the barn scene, where the chemistry between Beck and Skyla truly ignited. It beautifully captured their connection—an intimate mix of passion and tenderness that left me wanting more!

With a spice rating of 2🌶️, When We Break knows just the right balance to keep things steamy while focusing on the emotional depth of their relationship. The absence of unnecessary drama or third-act breakups was refreshing, making the journey feel mature and grounded.

Books Worth Reading:

This book is perfect for fans of small-town romances and those who appreciate stories of healing and second chances. If you’re looking for a heartfelt, steamy read that explores themes of trust and resilience, you’ll undoubtedly find enjoyment in Beck and Skyla’s tale.

Overall, When We Break was an incredibly fulfilling reading experience for me, and I’m eagerly anticipating the next installment in The Blackwells of Montana series. Thank you to Valentine PR and Kristen Proby for an advance copy—my heartfelt appreciation goes out to you both!
