Table of Contents

What is a Western Romances Novel?

Western is one of the literary genres known for its versatility and scope, a multi-faceted genre that encompasses several sub-genres, including romance.

Western Romances Novels involve romance set in the American West, varying from traditional historical, contemporary, and faith-based. Since the Wild West offers a perfect environment for unexpected romance plots, authors use beautiful landscapes, outdoorsy heroes and heroines, and Western activities such as horseback riding and ranching to enrich the story.

Although it’s hard to identify what the first Western Romance novel was, the genre itself had a way to keep readers yearning for one. Whether it is a city girl trying to fit into the Western life, or a handsome cowboy looking to impress a woman that caught his attention, it’s the unexpected combination of settings, characters, and intricate details that makes Western Romance novels selling up to this day.

Among the famous best-selling authors of Western Romances books was Janet Dailey, an American author whose novels have been translated into various languages, selling more than 300 million copies worldwide. Other well-renowned novelists include Julie Garwood, C.J. Petit, Lauren Landish, Natalie Dean, and more.

The Western and Romance literary genres are both vast, to begin with, but when mixed, Western Romance novels offer a different and brand new experience for readers to look forward to every time. These novels continue to prosper as decades come, with new authors and readers emerging to keep the genre flourishing.

Books Worth Reading:

A 5-Star Review: I really enjoy reading old time westerns especially when there’s a love story thrown in. This book has both action and a love story. There’s some pretty bad guys in this story but there’s a couple of heroes in there that save the day more than once. There’s also some strong women that have their own problems but overcome them. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good ending!

A Critical Review: The storyline was fine, but the dialogue was silly and the writing lacked substance. Too many love scenes, and too explicit for the story. It made them feel gratuitous. I skimmed through a lot of the story, hoping it would pick up.

Western Romances Novels # 2) Mail Order Mix-Up: Historical Western Romance (Brides of Seattle Book 3)

Western Romances Novels # 2: Mail Order Mix-Up: Historical Western Romance (Brides of Seattle Book 3) by Cynthia Woolf

Book Summary: She intrigues him. Gabe Talbot has never met a woman like Josie. She’s beautiful but dresses like a man. She’s elegant but cusses like a sailor. And even though he watched his brother nearly die from heartache when he lost his wife, Gabe is breaking every rule he’s ever had about women. He’s falling in love. But Josie has other ideas. She’s never known a man who didn’t abandon his family, her own father included. She’s independent. Capable. She doesn’t need to depend on anyone. And she doesn’t want a man who’s going to give her another broken heart. When four lonely orphans enter the picture, Josie might finally accept his marriage proposal, but it’s her mixed-up, rebellious heart he’s determined to claim.

A 5-Star Review: Josie father was killed when she was a young teen, so she had to go out and hunt to feed her mom and herself. She usually wore pants and a shirt, plus she never learned any household skills. Gabe was in his letter twenties, he moved to Seattle with his brothers with 100 women who had volunteered to be wives for the men that worked for their lumber business. He thought he’d never marry because his heart had been broken when his fiance became a nun. He was asked by a brother to help a poor lady and her daughter move. When he saw the daughter, Josie, he was shocked, couldn’t take his eyes off her and she was staring back… But you need to read the book for he rest of the story. The book is well written and I really enjoyed it. If you enjoy romance in the American West, you’ll like this book.

A Critical Review: This would not pass high school freshman english class. It was horrible, could not finish it. It is a ridiculous story! Don’t waste any time on it.

Books Worth Reading:

Western Romances Novels # 3) Steel Resolve (Cardwell Ranch: Montana Legacy Book 1)

Western Romances Novels # 3: Steel Resolve (Cardwell Ranch: Montana Legacy Book 1) by B. J. Daniels

Book Summary: Sometimes you can go home againIt’s just not always safe…Mary Cardwell Savage never meant to send that letter to her ex, Chase Steele. How could she know her words would bring the gorgeous cowboy back to Big Sky, Montana—with an unstable and dangerous stalker following close behind? Now Chase wants to prove that their love deserves a second chance. And this time, nothing will keep him from his heart’s desire…not even a killer.

A 5-Star Review: Another suspense from BJ Daniels that I couldn’t put down. This one didn’t have as much romance as I would have liked but I loved going back to Big Sky and the Cardwell-Savage family! I’ve missed them! However, you don’t have to have read those books to read this one! I’m not going to rehash the story but Mary and Chase have been separated and Chase realizes that he belongs with Mary so comes back home to Montana but a totally unbalanced woman follows him because she is obsessed with him and doesn’t want Mary to have him. For me, there was a little too much time spent with this woman and not enough of Mary and Chase. I wanted more of them! The book was supposed to be about them and not the stalker but I understand it was trying to build the tension and suspense! I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series!

A Critical Review: Good plot but the characters act more like teenagers rather that people almost 30. Nothing adult like about their behavior. Could have been so much better.

Western Romances Novels # 4) Rough Love (Tannen Boys Book 1)

Western Romances Novels # 4: Rough Love (Tannen Boys Book 1) by Lauren Landish

Book Summary: Second chances aren’t easy. Sometimes, it takes some Rough Love.Bruce Tannen is known as Brutal from his days as a monster on the football field. He can help fight her demons and bring back her sunny smile, but should he?Allyson Meyers had her life all figured out, but a wrong turn took her on a journey she never imagined. Not even in her worst nightmares. But she’s stronger now for the one person who matters… her son, Cooper. Being a single mother is a burden she’s grateful to bear alone until she sees a pair of all-too-familiar broad shoulders and dark, knowing eyes that remind her of who she once was. Bruce was the one she’d left behind. The path she should’ve taken. It’s too bad you can’t rewrite history. But if she’s brave enough, can they create a new future? Can Bruce open his heart to the one that shattered it in the first place? And can Allyson blend who she is now with who she used to be, and live the happily ever after she should’ve had?Rough Love is a full-length Romance with an HEA, no cheating, and no cliffhanger. It can be read as a standalone.

A 5-Star Review: I received an arc of this book for my honest review. Bruce tannen is a tough farm hand with a heart of gold. He comes face to face with the woman who broke his heart. Allyson is a single mother who went through a ton of stuff. When they meet again the sparks are still there. They both finally get the happily ever after they deserve. I loved this book so much. It was well written and had all the feels.

Books Worth Reading:

A Critical Review: This was the first book I’ve read by this author and as much of an avid reader as I am, I can say it will be the last book of hers I read. Between the crudeness and lack of actual writing skill this book was hard to read at best. The story line gets lost in the trashy way it was written. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone and found it to be a waste of money and time. If I could give a zero rating I would.

Western Romances Novels # 5) Old Dogs

Western Romances Novels # 5: Old Dogs by Ron Schwab

Book Summary: From the bestselling author of Grit and Cut Nose comes the captivating new Western novel, Old Dogs!Jack Wills and his longtime friend and saddle partner of nearly forty years, Rudolph Kilgore, assumed they had long ago outrun their last Comanche war party. Tending to the Lucky Five Ranch with Thor, Jack’s 12-year-old dog, at their side was now a more appealing way to spend their remaining years than the decades of close calls they experienced. But a mysterious rider approaching the Lucky Five will change everything for Jack and Rudy, and their peaceful lives will be uprooted by the revelation of a long-kept secret that prompts one last quest for the “old dogs.”Adventure abounds in Ron Schwab’s latest Western novel that will leave you laughing, crying, and in suspense until the very end.

A 5-Star Review: Ron Schwab hit it out of the park with this excellent action packed story. I don’t know when I have been more drawn in by a book as this one does with its believable characters. Rancher Wells is a giant in the community and beloved by all who work for him. His adopted son Jordy Jackson has been raised by him since age ten when Wells was a Texas Ranger and rescued him from a Comanche attack on his parents wagon that killed them and his sister. Out of the blue a pretty 20 year old young lady shows up on the ranch claiming to be his granddaughter but he is taken aback because he had no children. When the story unfolds and he agrees to help her recover 50 horses stolen by the Commancheros who killed her father the action just keeps on going. His beloved dog Thor is at the heart of this book and a central character. Couldn’t put this one down.

A Critical Review: The women are the true leaders. The minorities are just incredibly awesome guys and the Commanches are just misunderstood peaceful people mostly. Of course they rape, murder, torture, and steal, but really isn’t that the white man’s fault.
My family immigrated to the Republic of Texas in 1839 and a few were Texas Rangers. I honestly couldn’t finish this woke western. 99 cents was way over priced.

Western Romances Novels # 6) Cowgirl Fallin’ for Her Best Friend’s Brother

Western Romances Novels # 6: Cowgirl Fallin' for Her Best Friend's Brother: Western Romance (Brides of Miller Ranch, N.M. Book 5) by Natalie Dean

Book Summary: Cici Miller is a life-long nerd. Now that she’s a college graduate, she’s determined and assertive and brave. Except when it comes to love. But then his ex shows up wanting to work on their problems. Will Cici get up the courage to spill her feelings to Baz? Before Baz jump starts the relationship with his ex?

Books Worth Reading:

A 5-Star Review: Cici and Baz had to overcome yers of familiarity and diverse lives for the last 3 years.it was a treat to see how she matured, yet kept her childlike enthusiasm. Baz was never introduced in the previous books but he and his family quickly grew on me.

When Victoria returned my estimation of him dropped dramatically until it dawned on me here was a man willing to go to counseling in an attempt to salvage a relationship. His proposal to Cici had my eyes seriously leaking..

There were several very obvious mistakes on the editing end, such as when the HEA is about to happen and the story references Sabra and her fiancé, although by that time they had been married almost 2 years.

Now give us Papas story and perhaps more Skillet?!

A Critical Review: This is the final story of the Miller brides and I was somewhat disappointed in the story. Author did such a great job on the others so it is hard to see it end so flat. I was given a ARC for honest review. It is okay, clean afternoon read that brings you updates on the other girls.

Western Romances Novels # 7) Riding Shotgun

Western Romances Novels # 7: Riding Shotgun by C.J. Petit

Book Summary: Lemhi County Sheriff Mitch Ward wasn’t pleased after capturing notorious gang leader Ace Carr. There were two reasons for his displeasure. He’d only been able to find the gang’s boss, so he knew that the other four members of his gang were probably still in his county. The other reason was that Ace wasn’t wanted in his county, so he’d have to transport him to Lewiston on the border between Oregon and Idaho Territory. The county seat of neighboring Nez Perces County was two hundred miles away, so he would have to use the scheduled stagecoach to bring him to trial. He planned to ride shotgun while one of his deputies stayed in the cabin cuffed to the shackled prisoner. He was convinced that Ace’s boys would try to keep their boss from climbing the gallows steps in Lewiston. He believed that he had prepared for whichever tactic they might try to spring him loose. But when they made their move, he received the shock of his life.

A 5-Star Review: This was absolutely fantastic, I loved this book! Definitely a must read, excitement galore and lots of drama throughout this book. This Author is magnificent, I’ve read all his books and can’t wait for his next one, including a beautiful love story, so much action and sexy characters and moments, especially when you least expect it from start to finish, exciting activities keep you turning those pages. So many thanks, Honey Bee 🌬🔥🤠😉📚🎭❤💙🐝🎶

A Critical Review: Author may have good intensions with the subject of antisemitism but it comes off as patronizing, and poorly expressed. In real life, the legendary Wyatt Earp married a Jewish lady. I never read were townsfolks treated her differently or made their disapproval of Wyatt for marrying a Jew. I would think the life expectancy of someone who reacted unkindly to Josephine Earp would be very short.
The rest of the book was sappy and uninspiring. The sheriff had been a man of few words ,too bad the author wasn’t.

Western Romances Novels # 8) Jake

Western Romances Novels # 8: Jake by C.J. Petit

Book Summary: Private Jake Elliott was apprehensive as he walked to the commander’s office. He couldn’t think of a single transgression which would have attracted the major’s attention. When he left the command building ten minutes later, he was still numbed by the short visit. Tomorrow, he would no longer be a cavalryman, but would be returning to the family ranch outside of Fort Benton in Montana Territory. But it was the reason he was being discharged before his enlistment expired that had been the biggest shock. His mother had been brutally murdered. If that hadn’t stunned him enough, it was when he learned that his father had committed the crime. When Jake boarded the riverboat that would take him home, he wasn’t planning to stay on the ranch for more than a few days. He’d soon be leaving to hunt down his father and find justice for his mother.

A 5-Star Review: I have read every book written by Mr. Petit and a couple of them twice. This particular story was just a little different. It kept me guessing from beginning to end. Each twist in the story had me rethinking who did it and trying to figure out where the story was going to take me. I read the story in one day because I just could not put it down. If you haven’t read one of his books, I promise if you read just one, you will want to read more and more and more. . . . .

Books Worth Reading:

A Critical Review: Unlike most of Mr Petits’ stories, this one tries to be a romance with a little western action. His strength as a writer lies in the opposite formula; western with a little romance.
Having bought all of his works, I hope to see the return of western frontier justice as the primary plot with a bit of romance added.

Western Romances Novels # 10) Twice the Malone (Haven, Texas Book 10)

Western Romances Novels # 10: Twice the Malone (Haven, Texas Book 10) by Laylah Roberts

Book Summary: She’d never had a one-night stand in her life . . . Until the night she met them. Gorgeous. Seductive. Charming. And wild. So she threw caution to the wind and had one crazy, hot night with two men she’d never see again. Yeah. Turns out, she didn’t have that sort of luck. What she had were two Malone men. One wanted to devour her, the other wanted to destroy her. Scarlett Jean is a woman in trouble.Welcome to the world of the Malones. They’re crazy, wild, charming, and they will take you on a crazy ride. This book is mfm with sexy scenes, domineering, protective men and spanking.

Books Worth Reading:

A 5-Star Review: Wow! I plowed through this book despite my desire to savor it and make it last
longer. I have read many books by Ms.Roberts and she never fails to entertain or
surprise me. This book was a 10 out of 10 and my favorite in this series.

Scarlett was in a perpetual dry patch where men were concerned. Finding herself
sandwiched between Beau and Maddox Malone for one night of pleasure had far-reaching consequences. Her mind screamed to resist, but her body demanded her to yield.

The difference between Beau and Maddox was like night and day. Maddox was an unapologetic alpha male with trust issues with a need to be in control. Beau wore his heart on his sleeve. He was decadent and downright dirty at times. He oozed sex appeal. Beau and Maddox complemented each other. Would Scarlett complete them?

My heart ached for Scarlett, who struggled with body issues. Never in her wildest dreams did she think she was worthy of not one but two sexy Malone brothers.

I loved everything about this book. It was hot in so many ways that it sizzled. Its full of emotional turmoil, but at the core of it, it’s a true love story.

But when Julia McComas winds up living in his guest house, her presence shakes up more than just ranch life. It shakes up his heart. Can Julia learn the ways of the ranch? Can Graham let go of the reins enough to let love into his heart?

A 5-Star Review: A beautiful, sweet, heartfelt story. Written with a feeling of close family and good friends. A story that makes you believe in love and a family closeness that is no longer seen in today’s society. I can’t wait to start on the next book in the series.

A Critical Review: Thought I was getting this with Kindle Unlimited (3 book deal, books 1, 2 & 3). Got charged for the books instead. Didn’t see a way to “return for refund”. Very disappointed.

Books Worth Reading:

A Critical Review: Ugh, Charity poor pitiful rich girl. The woes of the family are on her shoulders. From what I read she’s a control freak. At 27% of the book I was done. This just didn’t hold my interest. I read romance for the escape and the connection that I get with the characters. The main character Charity is not a likeable person. Maybe the rest of them are but I just wasn’t interested enough to find out. I felt like it needed a really good editor to tighten it up. Not sure I’ll try any of her others.

Western Romances Novels # 13) Grumpy Cowboy: A Hot Single Dad, Enemies-to-Lovers Romance

Western Romance Books: Grumpy Cowboy: A Hot Single Dad, Enemies-to-Lovers Romance by Max Monroe

Book Summary: ATTENTION: If you have been a victim of false advertising, you may be entitled to compensation. If you were ever hired to take care of a fourteen-year-old boy’s knee injury on a luxury ranch in the Middle of Nowhere, Utah, but that fourteen-year-old boy ended up being a tall, rough-and-tumble, muscular, one-hundred-percent all-man cowboy by the name of Rhett Jameson, you may have been put at risk for falling in love. Please seek counsel immediately.

Dear Counselor,

It was supposed to be simple favor for my very important boss, Frank Kaminsky of the Salt Lake Slammers professional basketball team—go to his good friend Tex Jameson’s luxury ranch and provide personal medical care for his recently injured teenage son.

I thought it’d be a working vacation of sorts—a chance for my city-girl self to experience something I would never otherwise do—but everything is upside down, and absolutely nothing is as I thought it would be.

Books Worth Reading:

For one, this patient is not a teenage boy.

He’s a real-life, blue-eyed, tough-as-nails, thirtysomething cowboy who is so darn strong he looks like he could lift a car just for the heck of it.

He’s also stubborn, rude, and we don’t get along…at all.

Add in the heart-melting vision of him as a single father to the cutest little girl on the planet, and I’ve found myself in a whole different dimension of trouble.

Lust. Feelings. A whole lot of enemies-to-lovers-style complication.

Books Worth Reading:

Please help me. My name is Dr. Leah Levee, I am a victim of false advertising, and if I’m not careful, this Grumpy Cowboy might just be the death of me.

A 5-Star Review: I was so excited to hear that Rhett was getting his own story. I was definitely not disappointed at all. Rhett and Leah are a match made in heaven and their banter was priceless. Add in an adorable 5 yr old and Joey will definitely melt your heart. I was laughing, smiling and got teary eyed while reading this book. This will definitely pull on your heartstrings. The ending was perfect and exactly the ending I was hoping for.

A Critical Review: So cookie cutter but when I got to the part about the h exercising the horses I knew I couldn’t complete the book, just can’t believe authors would consider that humorous, rather it paints the h as incredibly stupid to the point that no person with a lick of intelligence would do that. The book contains a lot of profanity, I surmise it is used to fill pages as nothing of interest is going on in the book. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone.

Western Romances Novels # 14) Loose Ends

Western Romance Books: Loose Ends by Duane Boehm

Book Summary: From the bestselling author of the Gideon Johann Western Series and the Wild Horse Westerns Series comes the captivating new Western novel, Loose Ends!

Little does the reclusive Jake Mason know that his life is about to take a dramatic turn when he catches the tomato stealing Nicolette Amar sleeping in his shed. After years of living alone with only his dog, Cronus, Jake finds himself unable to turn his back on the runaway orphan once he learns of the girl’s plight, even if getting involved in another’s affairs clashes with every fiber of his being. The quest to find Nicolette a new home will cause Jake to revisit his past life as an outlaw and to face his daughter, Stacey, which he abandoned years ago. Will the hard-luck Nicolette find the home she so desperately wants? Can Jake make peace with his past and his daughter, and in the turn, provide Stacey the opportunity to forgive her father and be healed of her own demons? Loose Ends is a frolicking western that delves into how life choices can have consequences for decades on not only the person making those decisions, but those that they love.

Duane Boehm has written another western novel with enough humor, heartbreak, love, and outlaws to keep you turning the page.

A 5-Star Review: The story was different than most westerns but I truly enjoyed it. Well, there was a couple of things. I know that for some reason writers don’t think of things that would most likely be important to most people, most especially children. In one story a 4 year old girl’s parents are murdered away from home but when it is discovered where she lived not one mention of getting her clothes, toys, or special things I’d family Bible or other family moments she might feel more comfortable having. In this story you write about the box of books, classics, that Jake had as well as the picture you mentioned he had but when selling Jake’s place it was to be auctioned off without getting any personal things and since both Stacey & Nicolette both loved to read. A little touch of normal consideration would be a nice touch. Thank you for a great read though

A Critical Review: The parts about Jake was interesting but the lovey dovey stuff got old fast. I like more tough guy shoot ‘em up in my Westerns

Western Romances Novels # 15) Goodnight (Rebel Sky Ranch Book 1)

Western Romance Books: Goodnight (Rebel Sky Ranch Book 1) by Kelly Fox

Book Summary: Trip: I was born and raised on Rebel Sky Ranch, and meeting Sam is the one bright spot in the long, terrible year since my mother’s death. He reminds me of the horses we rescue. Scarred, skittish, and…strong. Beautiful.

He’s a bit of a hat-stealer, and, truth be told, I’m a little leery of his chosen profession. But if that scar on his face is any indication, he could use somebody at his back. I aim to be that person.

And yeah, some of my parts get confused by the fact that he’s all delicate and sparkly, but that’s not important. Even if the good hand lotion has somehow made it into the tack room.

I just hope he knows that he’ll always be safe with me.

Sam: I’m a cam boy who officially identifies as Wrangler-sexual. It’s entirely the fault of Trip Goodnight, the strapping cowboy at the ranch next door. He doesn’t know it yet, but he’s going to be the father of my two-point-five children.

We’re an unlikely pairing, what with him being straight and me being a gay sex worker, but those, darling, are mere details. When he saves me from a literal nest of rattlesnakes, it’s nothing if not true love. I’m aiming for a spring wedding.

While it’s true that I haven’t been able to let a man touch me since I was attacked last year, and there’s no telling what my father might do if he manages to find me, I’m not letting any of that stop me.

In fact, I’ve stolen Trip’s cowboy hat and used it in one of my videos, so I’m already well on my way to making him mine. Besides, he’s the first man outside of my found family who’s made me feel safe. Protected.

That’s gotta count for something…right?

Bisexual awakening, hurt-comfort, size difference, friends to lovers

A 5-Star Review: This book was a slump buster for me that left me with a book hangover. I could not put it down. I loved the MCs and I quickly fell for the side characters that I will now be not so patiently waiting for stories on. There are a couple instances in the book that I was very pleased with the way the author handled a character. I adored the way the author handled the existence/passing of one of the MCs mom and I really liked the way the “cowboy” mc handled finding out his romantic interest is a sex worker. I think both of those had the opportunity to incorporate angst for the sake of it and instead the author chose to rise above it and instead create something inclusive and magical. I highly recommend this book to readers new to authors work and to those that have been following along for the ride this whole time!

A Critical Review: Cute but I felt like stuff was missing or just didn’t make much sense how stuff went down.
So the ranch is going down financially and I know this was the way for Des to come in and save the day but if Sam is making half a mil a mth on his channel makes more sense for Trip “his cowboy” to join a video and take a cut of the profits. And why bring Jason in for Wyatt? I was looking forward to the next book and Wyatt being straight falling for Des.
And how come Sam was ok to out Wyatt but neither one if them outed Jason, made no sense to me.

Western Romances Novels # 16) Texas True (The Tylers of Texas Book 1)

Western Romance Books: Texas True (The Tylers of Texas Book 1) by Janet Dailey

Book Summary: A second chance for a veteran and his sweetheart comes at a price in this romance from the New York Times–bestselling author of the Calder Saga. He’s the one who got away… The cowboy who claimed her heart before taking off on a tour of duty, planning never to return. Especially when she finds herself suddenly widowed and needing the shelter of his strong arms. She’s the hometown sweetheart… The girl Beau left behind but never forgot, despite his battle-scarred soul. Now Natalie is the real reason he’s staying on at the ranch, despite rumors that he was somehow involved in her late husband’s death. Praise for the Tylers of Texas series

“Big, bold, and sexy, Texas True is Janet Dailey at her best!”—Kat Martin

“Dailey does the genre proud with plenty of intrigue, subplots, twists and, of course, love. Fans and newcomers alike will revel in the ride.”—Publishers Weekly on Texas Tall

A 5-Star Review: While reading the first chapter of “Texas Tough”, I realized that it must be one of a series. When I looked it up and found that indeed it was, I stopped reading that one and began reading “Texas True”. This story was so well written and you felt that Beau, Natalie, Sky and all the others were people you knew. Being from the Lubbock area, in my minds eye I could see all the land that was described in the story. Will Beau stay and help Will run the ranch? Will he survive the charges he is accused of and escape prision time? Anyone that loves a good romance with a little murder thrown in will love this book. As all of Janet’ s book, this one will go on to my ‘re-read’ list.

A Critical Review: It has been a really long time since I read Janet Dailey and I have to say I remember her writing being better than this. It seemed to jump from one scene to another without a transition and the female, while supposedly strong, isn’t. Trying not to give anything away here, just not up to par as far as I am concerned. Will not be reading the rest.

Western Romances Novels # 18) Gamblin’ Man

Western Romance Books: Gamblin' Man by R. O. Lane

Book Summary: A young boy, raised by his uncle, becomes a professional poker player on the Mississippi right after the War Between the States. In a poker game, he wins a ranch in western Colorado, where he meets the love of his life, but an outlaw does his best to destroy both of them. The young poker player must drop into the jaws of hell to gain back his woman and his dream of a life with her. Another story of the Old West with a touch of romance by R. O. Lane.

A 5-Star Review: One of the things I admire about RO Lane’s books is that his storylines aren’t cluttered with a lot of unnecessary narrative when the characters are traveling from one point to another or involved in a chase/pursuit. His books are always a fast read and very enjoyable. I highly recommend, Douglje

A Critical Review: Sadly, this is not Mr. Lane’s best although many others are. Not until nearly halfway into the story is any tension introduced and even then it is thin and very predictable. Try some of his other stories for ones you’ll like better.

Western Romances Novels # 19) Rough Country (Tannen Boys Book 3)

Western Romance Books: Rough Country (Tannen Boys Book 3) by Lauren Landish

Book Summary: Is it really a dream come true if it means losing the one thing you never knew you needed? Willow Parker is excited to move to Podunk, Nowheres-ville. That’s what she’s telling herself, but it’s not working until she meets a dark-eyed, honey-voiced cowboy. That’s when her new small-town life starts looking a lot less temporary. Bobby is a big-hearted storyteller, wrapped in a sexy, gruff, hard-working, family man package that makes Willow’s pillow-soft heart race and body hum. She should’ve known love’s never that easy though. Bobby Tannen knows exactly who he is – a farmer, a brother, and last but not least, a singer-songwriter. He’s made his peace with his biggest audience being the folks at the local honkytonk, and knows his future lies in the dirt of the land he’s worked his whole life. With beautiful Willow at his side, he’s one step closer to a happily ever after he’s only written songs about. Until a hotshot music executive comes to town and offers Bobby everything he’s ever wanted. But it may come at too high of a price… his new relationship with Willow. Who truly holds Bobby’s heart – the bright lights of Nashville or his sweet Willow?

A 5-Star Review: How can Lauren keep writing such great works of amazing reading? I don’t know but I am so happy that she does!!! This final book in the Bennett and Tannen series is just so awesome and it makes me sad to see this family series end. I am happy to report I purchased all of them before they were even released so I can add them to my incredible Lauren Landish library that is filled with her other amazing books. If you have not ever read anything by this author then you have been missing out on some magnificent reads. This final book in this family chapter is about that last Tannen, Bobby, to find love with a marvelously loving Willow. It is such an awesome journey for them where Bobby reaches his dream with Willow by his side. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!!

A Critical Review: Good Story Line….but the overkill of using the word the author seems so fond of using takes away from the storyline. I skimmed through to finish the book.
Started looking at the intro of the next book in the series; Still seems to be her favorite word.

Western Romances Novels # 20) Knitted Hearts: A Small Town Romance (Poplar Falls Book 6)

Western Romance Books: Knitted Hearts: A Small Town Romance (Poplar Falls Book 6) by Amber Kelly

Book Summary: An emotional, passionate second-chance romance in the Poplar Falls series from Amber KellySometimes you have to lose control to have it all…I’ve always longed to start a family of my own. I throw everything I have into every relationship. Too bad I seem to attract the fixer-uppers. You know the type—the boys with all the potential but none of the drive. I thought Ricky was different, the one who would finally step up and be the man I’d been dreaming about all these years—ever since I lost my father when I was a little girl. I didn’t realize the dream would turn out to be a nightmare. So here I am. Twenty-four years old, on the verge of divorce, and trying not to think about what my daddy would say while I hold on to the last threads of my life to keep it all from unraveling. It’s all going fine until Foster Tomlin swaggers into my life. The sexy-as-sin former soldier works on my best friend’s family ranch, and there’s no getting around him or what I’m feeling. He doesn’t need fixing up. He’s perfect the way he is. The way he looks at and treats me makes me feel things I’ve sworn off for good. And when he wraps his arms around me, I find myself letting go of all the things I thought I wanted and needed. The question is…can I take a risk and put my heart on the line again?

A 5-Star Review: Amber has captured my heart yet again with the Poplar Falls crew. I loved this series so much. Sinai and Foster’s story was shorter than I’d hoped for but loved it none the less. Amber you’re an amazing author thank you for bringing real life to all of these amazing couples in Poplar Falls. I can’t wait to see what you give us next. This was worth every laugh and tear through the entire series. Absolutely worth the read.

A Critical Review: Knitted Hearts brings readers to the story of Sonia and Foster’s two people who are going through a divorce and find in each other the possibility of loving again and starting over. The story is sweet, and at the same time bittersweet for being the farewell of the residents of Poplar Fall. Although it’s not my favorite book in this series, I think it served the purpose of bringing these two characters that were always present in the previous books to an end and also gave us a glimpse into the future of other couples, thus bringing this series to a full cycle.

Western Romances Novels # 21) Where the Lost Wander: A Novel

Western Romance Books: Where the Lost Wander: A Novel by Amy Harmon

Book Summary: In this epic and haunting love story set on the Oregon Trail, a family and their unlikely protector find their way through peril, uncertainty, and loss.

The Overland Trail, 1853: Naomi May never expected to be widowed at twenty. Eager to leave her grief behind, she sets off with her family for a life out West. On the trail, she forms an instant connection with John Lowry, a half-Pawnee man straddling two worlds and a stranger in both.

But life in a wagon train is fraught with hardship, fear, and death. Even as John and Naomi are drawn to each other, the trials of the journey and their disparate pasts work to keep them apart. John’s heritage gains them safe passage through hostile territory only to come between them as they seek to build a life together.

When a horrific tragedy strikes, decimating Naomi’s family and separating her from John, the promises they made are all they have left. Ripped apart, they can’t turn back, they can’t go on, and they can’t let go. Both will have to make terrible sacrifices to find each other, save each other, and eventually…make peace with who they are.

A 5-Star Review: This book is breathtakingly beautiful. I knew it was going to tear me apart from the prologue, but I trusted Amy to put me back together, and she did. I’ve never been particularly interested in reading books about the wagon trains. Maybe, because the life was just down right hard. Maybe, because there is so much anguish, loss, and illness that came with the fight to achieve their dreams as they crossed the country . All I can say is that Amy Harmon doesn’t balk from any of that. She writes it so you are right there, aching, feeling, hurting. The emotions ripple off the page. As always, her words are magical. Mesmerizing. John and Naomi have marked my soul with theirs. They are gorgeous and beautiful. So human and filled with so much humanity. I’m having trouble putting all the right words in place. Just read it. Let it lure you in and captivate you like it did me.

A Critical Review: It was pain to finish. Typical, cliche plot where the “excitement” and hardship in life comes from differences between white ppl and indians, but actually all the characters are perfect on paper and very unreal.

Western Romances Novels # 22) Small Town Charm

Western Romance Books: Small Town Charm by Carolyn Brown

Book Summary: From the New York Times bestselling author of Small Town Rumors comes a sweet Southern story of family, forgiveness, and true love. Growing up, Cricket Lawson was never one of the popular girls. And that was just fine with her. If the Belles couldn’t deal with her curves or tell-it-like-is attitude, she didn’t want to be friends with them anyway. Now she’s perfectly content running her little bookshop and tending to her garden. Then Bryce Walton comes to town. He’s sweet, friendly, and successful, and suddenly all the ladies in Bloom, Texas, are pulling out every ounce of Southern charm they have to win him over. But they’re shocked to discover the only one Bryce wants to spend time with is Cricket. When one of the Belles reaches out to her for help, Cricket will have to decide whether the opportunity for true friendship means losing the man who’s quickly winning her heart.

A 5-Star Review: I usually know pretty quickly if I’m going to enjoy reading a book or not and this was no different. As soon as I recognised Cricket, Jennie Sue and Rick, it was like seeing old friends! This was a fun, fast read that I couldn’t put down! Highly recommend.

A Critical Review: What happened? No tantrums, no suspense, no story. Very disappointed. Doesn’t seem like a Carolyn Brown story at all. There should have been fireworks in the bookstore involving Anna Grace’s mom & Cricket at least.

A 5-Star Review: Cowboy Classifieds is an all the feels series … and they just keep getting better. The Pace brothers, parents, and the women they find meld, though not seamlessly, into the family so many of us would love to have! Passion, humor, patience, courage, stubbornness, humility, protectiveness …… All. The. Feels. Fabulous!

Western Romances Novels # 24) Never Enough (Meet Me in Montana Book 1)

Western Romance Books: Never Enough (Meet Me in Montana Book 1) by Kelly Elliott

Book Summary: From the New York Times bestselling author of the Cowboys and Angels series comes an intricate romance that asks the question, Can love heal the pain of the past?

Longing to forget the pain of his wife’s death, Brock Shaw has immersed himself in the one thing that lets him escape the guilt. Bull riding. But life on the road means leaving his young son at home with his parents. They want him to give up his career and be a father to his child, but Brock needs the adrenaline to get through each day…or so he thinks.

Lincoln Pratt needs a fresh start. As a top interior designer in Atlanta, she has everything she could ever want, but she’s always at her father’s mercy. Something’s missing, and Lincoln knows she’ll only find it somewhere far away—like the rolling pastures of Hamilton, Montana, where she meets the irresistibly mysterious Brock.

In Brock Shaw, Lincoln sees the part of her that’s missing. In Lincoln Pratt, Brock sees the part of himself he thought he’d lost. But the pain of his past binds him. Can he let himself love again?

A 5-Star Review: My goodness, what a truly amazing book. This author never disappoints; I know that I can read any one of her books and get all of the feels that I love. The journey of this beautiful cowboy and sweet sweet soul was fantastic to witness. And don’t get me started on how much I loved Blayze and all of the other supporting characters. So much love between this phenomenal group of family and friends.

A Critical Review: This book was ok — not bad not really good just ok. I always know “ok” is the answer when I look to see how many pages are left til the end. This book was kind of formulatic — boy meets girl, boy doesn’t like girl but can’t stay away, all the sudden girl likes boy, sigh. Gotta say I actually wonder if this was written by a woman — no depth to the female characers and the occaissonal crude words thrown in just made this….odd.
Read if it’s free, but don’t pay for this.

Western Romances Novels # 25) Claiming Her Forever: A Small Town Alpha Mountain Man Romance (Men of Rocky Mountain)

Western Romance Books: Claiming Her Forever: A Small Town Alpha Mountain Man Romance (Men of Rocky Mountain) by Alexis Winter

Book Summary: I’m not Mr. Settle-Down-and-Start-a-Family.

Tried it. Failed at it.

Don’t want it again.

I like my solitary life in the mountains. I mind my business and I keep to myself.

I learned the hard way that life ain’t easy or fair.

One minute you think you’ve got it all figured out and the next, you find your wife in your bed with your own best friend.

Then Quinn Prescott shows up to rent the lower level of my cabin.

Sweet, innocent Quinn with her persistent attempts to get to know me and her constant questions.

Those big doe eyes have a story behind them.

She wants more than just a casual hookup and she deserves more.

But I’m not the man who can give it to her, and the quicker she understands that, the better.

I tell myself just one small touch.

One lingering glance into her piercing blue eyes.

One taste of her sweet, pouty lips.

But it’s not just once, it’s an all-consuming desire to claim her, to make her mine.

I can feel myself losing grip on the situation but I don’t care.

Then my ex shows up with a baby, claiming it’s mine and reminding me why I live by the rules that I do.

Only it’s too late, I’ve let Quinn in and now she’s carrying a secret of her own.

No matter how many times I try to lie to myself, this thing between us isn’t just lust—it’s something so much more and it’s something I’m about to lose forever.

Grab book 1 in a brand new mountain man series that will have you swooning for these brooding alphas. Each book in this series will have you clutching your heart with off-the-charts heat and all the feels. You might be tempted to slap these frustrating men a few times but you’ll fall in love with each one before it’s over. Each book in this series can be read as a stand-alone.

A 5-Star Review: This book is great – Quinn & Sawyer are a fantastic couple. The story is well-plotted and well-written (there are a couple of minor grammar issues, but they didn’t take away from my enjoyment of reading). I love the supporting characters as well as the inclusion of the Slade brothers from previous books. The emotional power of the book was a nice surprise – some angst, no cheese. I highly recommend!

A Critical Review: The book just doesn’t make sense. I guess it could be fantasy, but even fantasy has to make sense. The characters are contradictory, so is the plot.

Western Romances Novels # 26) Buck Wild (Bennett Boys Ranch Book 1)

Western Romance Books: Buck Wild (Bennett Boys Ranch Book 1) by Lauren Landish

Book Summary: From Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Lauren Landish comes a hard-riding romance of cowboys who run wild—and the women who tame them…

Bull rider James Bennett lives for those eight seconds of exhilaration. A rodeo cowboy in his prime, all he wants out of life is something to straddle. That’s why James is feeling a little restless, spending his summer off working his family’s ranch. That is, until a spirited and gorgeous veterinarian-in-training shows up and puts the cocky wild boy—and his ego—in place. Though she’s a feisty one, James is always up for a challenge.

Sophie Stone has to admit it: James Bennett is a checklist of cowboy hotness—ruggedly handsome with piercing blue eyes, a hard-muscled body, and just enough swagger to make her toes curl. She thought she was done with her bad-boy phase, but exceptions must be made.

How can Sophie possibly say no to a man who makes her heart buck like a bronco? And when their summer fling comes to an end, how can she possibly say goodbye?

A 5-Star Review: The book was incredibly written. I loved the first meeting between James and Sophie. Both characters showing a backbone and knowing just exactly who and what they are from the get go. The road to an hea had a few turns and a lot of heat. Having met Sophie in a previous book, she had to find love with someone just as strong willed and “wild” as she is. This story definitely delivered that and more. I enjoyed this book and the ending actually had me in tears. Lauren Landish has outdone herself with the beginning of another series. I can only hope when she’s finished with the Bennett boys she moves next door and finds love for the Tannen boys and girl.

A Critical Review: It is a chore to slog through a book written in first person/present when the story line is enthralling, the characters are fascinating and the plot is intriguing. This book is not that.
This book is an exercise for the author alone. The story line is the same old trope with he same stereotypical characters doing nothing interesting.
I made it to page 96 before I gave up. I’m a voracious reader and I own the book now so I’ll save it for a dry spell and move on to something else but I won’t try another book by this author in the future.

Western Romances Novels # 27) The Second Chance Rancher: A Sweet and Steamy Western Romance (The Millers of Morgan Valley Book 1)

Western Romance Books: The Second Chance Rancher: A Sweet and Steamy Western Romance (The Millers of Morgan Valley Book 1) by Kate Pearce

Book Summary: Spinning-off of her beloved Morgan Ranch series, New York Times bestselling author Kate Pearce launches a new contemporary Western romance series about a neighboring ranching family trying to lasso love . . . It might be the pride of hard work on rugged terrain, the welcoming community, or the memories—but wherever the folks of Morgantown may roam, they have a way of coming back to the ranch . . .   There’s a reason Jackson Lymond left the Air Force, but he’s not telling a soul. He’d rather keep things simple, while trying to start a new life helping his older brother on their northern California ranch. At least Morgantown’s flirty local bartender can keep his mind off the past—that is, until he runs into Daisy Miller . . .  Daisy doesn’t really expect Jackson to remember her. Back in school she did her best to blend in—and pretend she didn’t have five brothers who’d hogtie any boy who even looked at her. These days though, she and Jackson might have more in common than just their ranching relatives. After all, they both left home only to return. Trouble is, under the watch of her fiercely protective family, Daisy is longing for some privacy. Letting Jackson into her life could make that even more difficult—or it might be the second chance they’re both looking for . . .    “Pearce’s fans and contemporary romance readers will want to pick this one up and read it to the end.”—Publishers Weekly

A 5-Star Review: Well written, strong story. A shoulder returns to his home town to find that much has not changed. Looking for a long term relationship that may go farther, he buys flowers from a cute girl to give to another girl. So as he gets shot down, he decides to see if the cute florist is available.. Oh, oh, oh..

A Critical Review: Found this story really tough going. I had a hard time getting into it. Sorry but I finally have up. That’s a first for me.

Western Romances Novels # 28) A Cowboy and his Mistletoe Kiss: A Johnson Brothers Novel (Chestnut Ranch Romance Book 2)

Western Romance Books: A Cowboy and his Mistletoe Kiss: A Johnson Brothers Novel (Chestnut Ranch Romance Book 2) by Emmy Eugene

Book Summary: He wasn’t supposed to kiss her. Can Travis and Millie find a way to turn their mistletoe kiss into true love?Travis Johnson attended the speed-dating event during Chestnut Springs’s Octoberfest and got exactly two phone numbers. One woman’s already told him there’s no spark between them.Ouch.The other has a boyfriend.Double ouch. But when Travis spots Millie at his brother’s wedding, he learns she broke up with that other guy. Perfect.Gathering his courage, he asks her to dance, only to have his brother point out they’re swaying under the mistletoe. So Travis does the only thing he can—he kisses Millie.Millie Hepworth plans parties for a living, and Travis is crazy-busy on the ranch with his brother off on his honeymoon. So he does the only thing he can think of to keep Millie close. He hires her to plan a Christmas party for him and his brothers out at Chestnut Ranch. No big deal.He forgot about the part where he works constantly and doesn’t have much to say, especially to a successful, sassy woman like Millie. Oh, and the part where his mother has always hosted the Christmas party…Oops. This is why cowboys should never kiss under the mistletoe.

A 5-Star Review: I like that everything doesn’t go smoothly. There has to be bumps in the road and misunderstandings in just about any relationship. Real life is when you hang on and work out the issues and totally commit to one another. These stories just make me feel good !

A Critical Review: This is ok. I like Travis, he’s reserved and a little timid. Millie was the exact opposite, she’s a whirlwind. There is some character depth so I did get to know them, I just couldn’t connect with them. There just didn’t seem to be enough emotion or excitement conveyed between the two about their new love to engage me into believing that they were truly in love.

Western Romances Novels # 29) Cap Tyler

Western Romance Books: Cap Tyler by C.J. Petit

Book Summary: When the Northern Pacific had ceased operations at the start of the Panic of 73, Cap had been stranded with his survey crew in the middle of Montana Territory. Since then, he’d lived a hard, solitary life. Recently he’s spent a few months as a gambler in the untamed town of Deadwood in Dakota Territory. But neither was what he wanted out of life. When he heard that the Northern Pacific had come out of bankruptcy and would soon start laying track west out of Bismarck, he left Deadwood in the hope of returning to his old life. Just a day’s ride from Bismarck, he discovered a disaster. He thought he’d seen it all over the past four years until he spotted scores of dead cavalrymen scattered across the Dakota plains. He couldn’t do anything but to avoid the Lakota who had won the battle, so he swung south and nudged is mules to a faster pace. It wasn’t long before he found an abandoned farmhouse that had suffered from a recent raid. He was about to ride past the open doorway when he heard a child’s cry. That whimper made him stop before it changed his life.

A 5-Star Review: I am so happy to find new western authors! This is a great storyline and really well written! Loved the complex regard to three very different mules and the strange coat that made Cap stand out! Nice to have a good storyline and romance that seems real! Wonderful story!

A Critical Review: This is an interesting frontier story nicely told with sparse prose. There are a few exceptions that seem incongruous. When the saloon owner is shot by Cap, his dying is related with the observations of a county coroner. And the Lakota war chief’s battle with Cap never really develops any empathy for either party, just a clinical description of a desperate battle. Still, a fine story with good values.

Western Romances Novels # 30) Texas Tough (The Tylers of Texas Book 2)

Western Romance Books: Texas Tough (The Tylers of Texas Book 2) by Janet Dailey

Book Summary: A rancher must fight to protect his family—and the heiress he loves—in this romance from the New York Times–bestselling author of the Calder Saga.

The heiress Sky can’t get out of his heart, no matter how much he tries. And being the secret third Tyler son doesn’t change a thing. All he wants from his two brothers is help uncovering a dangerous conspiracy threatening his land, their ranch, and the spirited beauty he never should have touched….

A 5-Star Review: The story of Rose tells of the earlier days of Bill Tyler and his son’s on the ranch. A good story of early days in Texas and how the Tyler’s of Texas managed to live the tough life on their ranch and people who were part of the early days. A very nice story after all the hardship, lies and very tough people.

A Critical Review: I used to love this author. I think I outgrew her. This book was like reading a teenage romance. The characters development was only at a shallow level and personally the storyline and ending was so unrealistic.
